Our Program
Special Connections offers a quality day program for special needs adults in the greater New Orleans area. The Program provides a safe and stimulating environment where our Members can socialize and feel valued while learning and growing. We strive to enrich their lives by offering a variety of activities. Here are a few activities our Members enjoy.
Holiday and Cultural Parties
Seasonal and cultural parties are held monthly and teach about traditions and cultures. The Black and Gold Tailgate, Summer Luau, Mardi Gras Mambo, and Jazz Fest parties are a few of our favorites. We also celebrate birthdays and holidays. These parties are a source of entertainment and enjoyment for all our Members.
Field Trips
Field trips are highly anticipated events where Members discover new areas of the community and experience different cultural and fun events. They also allow members of the greater New Orleans community opportunities to interact with special needs individuals in everyday settings.
Arts and Crafts
Engaging in artistic pursuits cultivates creativity and introduces our Members to various artistic mediums, fostering a sense of achievement and pride. Furthermore, crafts develop fine motor skills, enhance listening abilities, and encourage enjoyment and participation when undertaken in a collaborative group setting.
Movement
Aerobics, line-dancing, and chair fitness positively impact diverse fitness levels, addressing various skills such as spatial awareness, motor skills, memory skills, sequence skills, and listening skills. It encourages fitness in a fun and engaging atmosphere, especially when experienced with friends.
Music Enrichment and Entertainment
Musicians and dance groups often join us to interact and share their stories with our Members. These are fun and exciting activities for our Members to participate in and enjoy.
Tablets and Board Games
These activities are favorites at Special Connections and offer camaraderie with friends. In addition, they promote eye hand coordination, thinking skills, and safe competition.
